About Sebagram Rice Mill – Food & Beverages in Chhindwara
This mill is out in Sebagram village. It’s been here a long time, processing the grain that comes in from the local fields. You can hear the machines running from down the road most mornings. It’s a loud place and there’s always a bit of dust in the air from the husks, but that’s just part of the job. We work with the farmers around here, taking the raw paddy and turning it into rice that’s ready to cook. It’s physical work. We have a small crew of men who know the machines inside and out. They can tell if something is wrong just by the sound the belt makes. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are in the village. The trucks come and go all day, especially during the harvest season when things get really hectic. We try to keep things moving so nobody is waiting too long with their load. The building itself is old, made of brick and tin, and it stays cool enough in the shade. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in the district. We just want to do right by the people who bring their crop to us. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, but we get back to it as soon as we can. It’s a basic life here, tied to the seasons and the rain.
