Our plant is situated at 32/4 in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh, which is basically the power hub of the state. It gets incredibly hot here, especially when you are standing near the sponge iron furnaces all day. We deal with both the iron production and the power plant side of things, so there is never a quiet moment. The machinery is loud and requires constant attention to keep things running smoothly without any breakdowns. We have a lot of space out here, but it’s mostly filled with raw materials and the big industrial structures. The guys working the shifts are used to the grit and the soot that comes with this kind of industry. It’s not the kind of job you do if you want to stay clean. We spend a lot of time checking the monitors and making sure the power output is steady. Korba is a rugged place, and our facility reflects that. There are no fancy decorations or unnecessary comforts. We just have what we need to do the work. Lunch breaks are usually taken in the shade of the main building, where it’s a few degrees cooler. We don’t talk much about goals or visions, we just focus on meeting the daily quotas and making sure everyone stays safe on the floor. It’s a hard, practical way to make a living in this part of India and we are used to it.
