Our workshop, Ruby Rushi Auto (I) Pvt. Ltd., is tucked away in Phase-III of the Gidc Estate in Naroda. It is one of those places where you can hear the hum of the neighboring factories as soon as you step out of your car. The estate is huge, and sometimes people get lost trying to find our specific block, but we have been here long enough that most of the local tea sellers know where we are. We deal with auto parts. It is a lot of heavy lifting and the smell of grease. The building itself is just a standard industrial shed. We have some heavy machinery that takes up most of the floor space. During the monsoon, the rain hits the tin roof so hard you can barely hear yourself talk, but we just keep working through it. We do not have any flashy signs or a big marketing team. It is just us and the machines. Every morning we check the schedule and get the lines moving. The workers here are good at what they do, often knowing the sounds of the machines better than anyone else. If a press sounds off, someone catches it right away. We take our breaks together, usually sitting outside if the weather is not too hot. It is a simple setup. We focus on getting the parts out the door on time. There is not much more to it than that. Most of us have been here for years and it feels like a second home.
