Saraswati Traders

I run Saraswati Traders in the Purani Gujarati area of Shahganj. This part of town is quite old and the streets are a bit narrow, but that's where all the action is. I have been working out of this spot for a good while. The shop isn't very big, and it’s filled with all kinds of supplies that people around Shahganj need for their daily lives. I don't really have a specialty, just whatever seems to be in demand. The walls have seen better days, and the paint is peeling a bit, but it doesn't stop us from doing our work. I spend a lot of time sitting on a small stool near the entrance, greeting the people I’ve known for years. It’s a busy life in Purani Gujarati, especially in the afternoons when everyone is out doing their shopping. I don't use any fancy technology to track my sales, just a simple notebook and a pen. Sometimes I run out of things and have to wait for the next cart to bring more stock, but the regulars don't mind much. It’s a simple way of living and working. I don’t try to make the place look like a big city store because it isn’t one. It is just a practical corner of Shahganj where you can get what you need without any trouble. Most days, I am there from the early morning until the shops around me start closing their shutters for the night. It's a quiet existence but it keeps the food on the table and connects me with the local neighborhood.
