Womens Humanity Foundation

We are based in Chennai and run the Womens Humanity Foundation from here. The city is always moving and it can get quite hot, but we stay busy with the work we have to do. Our setup is pretty simple and we don’t have a lot of extra stuff in the office. It’s mostly just us sitting around a few tables trying to organize things. We see people coming in and out all day long. Some stay for a short while and others are here more often. We spend a lot of time talking to the local community and figuring out what needs to be done next. There is always a lot of paperwork to fill out and phone calls to make to keep everything running. We don't use fancy words or have big meetings; we just deal with things as they come up. Most days we are just happy to have the doors open and a place where people can find us. We usually have the windows open to let some air in, though the city noise can be loud. It feels good to be part of the neighborhood. We keep our notes in old notebooks and try to stay as organized as we can. It’s not a corporate environment at all. It’s just a group of us working in Chennai, trying to be useful where we can without making a big fuss about it. We just take it day by day.
