Our office is tucked away on the first floor of the Anna Nagar Plaza in the C-47 Commercial Complex. It is a busy part of town so there is always a lot of noise coming up from the street. We’ve been here in Chennai for a good while now focusing on cashews. Most of our day is spent on the phone talking to the processing units or checking on the shipping schedules. The office is pretty basic with just some desks and a few chairs for when people drop by to talk business. We don't really have a big storefront because most of what we do happens behind the scenes with bulk orders. It gets a bit hectic around the harvest season and the small staff here ends up working late more often than not. We try to keep things straightforward. If someone wants to know about the quality of the nuts, we just show them the latest samples we have on the shelf. There’s no need for a big sales pitch when you’ve been doing this as long as we have. We know the exporters and we know the local buyers. Sometimes the air conditioner acts up in the afternoon heat but we just open the window and keep going. It’s a decent place to work and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the plaza. We just focus on getting the cashews where they need to go.
