We operate out of 9/1, Perambur High Road 2nd Street in the Jamalia area of Chennai. Since we are in Chennai, it is always a bit noisy and crowded outside. Our office is just a small slice of the building. We have a narrow entrance that leads into the room where we keep our desks and all the files. Being on Perambur High Road means there is a lot of dust, so we are constantly wiping down the furniture. We handle the daily and monthly chit funds for the workers and residents in Jamalia. It’s a lot of small transactions that add up over the week. We have a row of plastic chairs against the wall for when people have to wait. Most of our regulars are in a hurry, so we try to get their receipts written out as fast as we can. We use those old-fashioned carbon copy books for the records. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we manage. There is a small tea shop just a few doors down, so the smell of vadas and tea often drifts into the office in the evenings. We are not some big financial firm with glass walls. We are just a local office where you can hear the traffic and see the real city life right outside the door. We just keep our books straight and wait for the next person to walk in.
