We are V P M Mechanic, and our shop is at 64, Madhavaram. We are very close to Agarsen College, so there are always students and young people moving about on the road outside. I started this shop because I always liked working on bikes and scooters. It’s a small place, and most of the work actually happens right out front on the pavement because there isn't enough room inside for more than two bikes. I have tools scattered around on boards and in old metal boxes. My hands are almost always stained with engine oil, which is just part of the job. People from around the neighborhood bring their vehicles here when they hear a strange rattling or need the oil changed. We don't have those fancy computer scanners, we just listen to the engine and figure out what’s wrong. Sometimes I have to go to the main market to get a part, so the customer has to wait a few hours. We don’t have a fancy waiting room, just a plastic chair that’s a bit wobbly. It’s a simple life and I know most of the people who live in this part of Madhavaram. The shop is a bit cluttered and it can get hot under the tin roof, but it’s where I spend my days. We just do the repairs and keep the bikes running for the locals. It’s nothing more than a humble garage.
