V. K. Raman & Co.

Our office for V. K. Raman & Co. is at 38, South Usman Road, right in the heart of T. Nagar. If you know Chennai, you know how hectic this part of town is. There is a constant flow of people and traffic outside our door, and the noise of car horns is something we’ve just learned to tune out over the years. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and the building has a lot of character, even if it’s showing its age a bit. Inside, the rooms are high-ceilinged and keep relatively cool, which is a blessing in the summer. We have a lot of wooden cupboards stuffed with old records because we aren't the type to throw things away if they might be useful later. Our desks are pushed close together, and there’s always someone coming in or out with a stack of papers. We don’t do things in a very corporate way here. If someone needs something, they just yell across the room. We take our breaks when we can, often sending someone out to get coffee from the place around the corner. It’s a very local way of doing business, and we wouldn't really know how to do it any other way. The energy of T. Nagar keeps us on our toes, but inside the office, we try to keep things steady and calm as we go through our daily routines. It's not a perfect setup, but it’s ours.
