Thulasiram & Co

We have been here at No 81 on Malayaperumal Street for a long time now. People around Parrys still call it the Old 36 building. If you walk down this lane, you know how crowded it gets with all the carts and people moving about. Thulasiram & Co is just a small part of this busy corner. Most mornings start with the sound of shutters opening up and down the road. It’s a bit dusty and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. We spend most of our day sitting inside, dealing with whatever comes through the door. There is a specific rhythm to this part of the city that you only get if you stay here long enough. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit by the entrance to get some air from the street. It is not fancy by any means. We have old wooden desks and piles of ledgers that have been around since I can remember. Visitors usually complain about finding a parking spot near Malayaperumal Street, but that is just how Parrys is. You learn to live with the noise and the constant movement. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. It’s practical and it works for what we do every day. No one here wears a suit, and we usually have tea brought in from the stall at the corner.
