The Roller Bearing Company

The Roller Bearing Company is found at No. 213, which used to be No. 104, on Hambu Chetty Street. It’s an old part of town, and the building has a lot of history to it. We specialize in bearings, those little things that keep wheels and machines turning smoothly. The shelves are heavy because steel bearings weigh quite a bit. It’s a dusty job sometimes, but we don’t mind getting our hands a bit dirty. Customers come in looking for very specific sizes, and we have to go back into the stacks to find them. It’s a bit like a treasure hunt every day. We don't do much in the way of advertising because people usually find us when they are in a bind and need a part right away. Hambu Chetty Street is always crowded, so there’s a lot of noise from the street coming in. We just keep working through it. We aren't fancy and we don't try to be. We just know our bearings and where everything is kept. If we don’t have a specific size in stock, we try to get it in a few days. It’s just us here, running the shop and making sure the counts are right at the end of the day. It’s honest work and it keeps the local machinery moving. We’ve been here a long time and plan to stay, just doing what we know how to do.
