Down on Naavalar Street in Senneerkuppam, things stay pretty busy from early morning until late evening. Our place at 101/2 isn’t hard to find if you’re familiar with the Poonamallee area. It’s a bit of a dusty stretch of road, and we’ve got machines running that make a fair amount of noise throughout the day. The shop floor is usually covered in metal shavings or whatever material we’re working with that week. It’s a practical space, built for work rather than looking good for visitors. We have a few fans blowing to move the air around, but it still gets quite warm when all the equipment is humming. The guys here have a rhythm to how they work, moving from one station to the next without needing to say much. We’ve been here long enough that the local neighbors know us by the sound of our shutters opening in the morning. Sometimes we have to move stuff out to the street just to make room to breathe inside. It’s a lot of hard work, often involves heavy lifting, and your hands never really stay clean for long. We don’t have a big sign or a fancy lobby. People just come to the gate and ask for what they need. It’s just a local shop where we put in the hours and get the parts made right.
