If you’ve ever walked down Rama Naicken Street in Chennai, you know how much character the place has. Our office for Tata Steel Ltd is at number 184. Nungambakkam is one of those areas where there’s always something going on, and the heat can be pretty intense most of the year. The building at 184 isn’t one of those new glass towers; it’s a bit more traditional than that. Inside, we keep things simple. We have our fans and AC units going to keep the Chennai humidity at bay while we work on our tasks. It’s a straightforward environment. We aren't really into the whole corporate branding thing inside the office; it’s mostly just desks, files, and some old chairs. We’ve been here in Nungambakkam for a while, and the 600034 area feels like home to the team. You can hear the sounds of the street from the windows, which keeps you connected to what’s happening outside. Dealing with steel business in the middle of such a busy city has its challenges, but we’ve found a good rhythm. We don't have any big mission statements on the wall, just a calendar and maybe a few notes pinned up. It’s a practical place to be for Tata Steel Ltd, and we just focus on the work that needs finishing each day. Rama Naicken Street is a good place to be.
