We’re located at 861 Ponamalli High Road in Kilpauk. Sugar Monkeys is our little bakery project. We spend most of our time in the back with flour on our aprons and sugar everywhere. It’s a small shop, and we like it that way because we can actually see what’s happening in the oven. We don't have a huge menu, just the things we know how to bake well. The smell of bread and cakes usually fills up the place by 8 in the morning. It’s a busy road outside, so we get a lot of people stopping in while they’re stuck in traffic or walking to the nearby shops. We aren't trying to be some high-end patisserie with fancy French names. We just make stuff that tastes good and looks decent. Some days the cookies come out a little darker than others, but that’s what happens when you’re doing it by hand. We started this because we just liked baking for friends, and it turned into a full-time thing. The counter is usually a bit crowded, and there’s always something being whisked in the kitchen. It’s a lot of early mornings and late nights cleaning up. We just keep at it because we like the work. If you're walking down Ponamalli High Road, you’ll probably find us by the smell before you see the sign. It’s just us doing what we enjoy in our own corner of Kilpauk.
