Studio Nizcaya

Our studio is right on Smith Road, near Mount Road in Chennai. We are at number 1, which is directly opposite the Indian Overseas Bank. Being in the heart of the city means it's always noisy outside with buses and bikes, but inside Studio Nizcaya, we try to keep things a bit more organized. We have a few desks, some computers, and a lot of sketches lying around. It’s a small team here. We don’t have a big board of directors or anything like that. We just enjoy the process of designing things. Sometimes we stay late when a project is moving fast, and other times it’s quiet enough to actually hear the ceiling fan. We chose this spot because it’s easy for people to find us since the bank is such a big landmark. The building is an older one, so it has some character, even if the walls could use a new coat of paint every now and then. We handle all kinds of design work and we don’t try to make it sound more complicated than it is. We talk to people, see what they need, and then we draw it up. It’s a very manual process in a lot of ways. If you stop by, you’ll probably see us arguing over a color or a line on a screen. That’s just part of the daily routine here on Smith Road.
