We’ve been here at No 129 on M H Road for a good while now. Running a gas station like Sri Brindha Autogas & Universal Auto Gas in Perambur keeps you on your feet, that’s for sure. Most days start early before the traffic really kicks in. We spend a lot of time checking the gauges and making sure everything is running right with the tanks. People pull in with their cars or rickshaws, looking to get back on the road quickly. Sometimes the heat in Perambur is just brutal, and standing out there by the pumps gets tiring, but it's the job. We know a lot of the regulars who come through; they don't say much, just want their fill and a quick nod. The equipment needs a lot of looking after, and there’s always some maintenance to do when things get quiet for a minute. My hands usually smell like gas by the end of the shift, which my wife doesn't love, but you get used to it. The shop part is small, mostly just where we keep the ledger and a few tools. We aren't doing anything fancy here, just basic work that needs doing. There’s always some noise from the street, and the tea stall nearby is where we grab a drink when there's a gap between customers. It’s a steady kind of life, keeping the vehicles moving through the neighborhood every day of the week.
