Jain Electricals

If you have ever been to Sowcarpet, you know how 9 Ayya Mudali Street feels. It is crowded, loud, and full of energy. That is where we run Jain Electricals. The shop is packed from floor to ceiling with boxes of wires, switches, and all sorts of electrical bits. Sometimes I think we have more stock than we have shelf space. People come in looking for very specific things, maybe a certain kind of bulb or a fuse that nobody else carries. We spend a lot of time climbing ladders to reach the top shelves. The light inside is a bit dim because of all the stuff blocking the windows, but we know exactly where everything is kept. Outside, the rickshaws are always honking and people are pushing carts through the narrow lanes. It’s a bit chaotic, but we like it that way. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the background, mostly just for some noise while we pack orders. My cousin helps out on the busy days when the counter gets full. We don’t have a big fancy sign or anything, just the name above the door that’s been there for years. Most of our day is spent talking to regular customers who have been coming to this street for a long time. It’s a straightforward way to make a living, and we just keep at it day after day without much fuss or worry about being perfect.
