Skylark Garments

Skylark Garments is located at 48A Ramanujam Street over in Old Washermenpet. This part of town is famous for textiles and everyone seems to be involved in the cloth trade somehow. Our building is a bit old and the stairs are narrow, but it serves us well. Inside, you’ll hear the constant sound of sewing machines and people calling out to each other. We do garments, mostly just stitching and packing whatever orders come our way. There are piles of fabric in different colors sitting on the tables and floors. It’s a busy atmosphere and sometimes it feels like we are running out of room. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting area because there just isn't any space for that. If someone visits, they usually just stand by the cutting table and talk to us while we work. The street outside is always crowded with scooters and cycles carrying rolls of cloth. It can be quite loud during the day but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We just try to get the pieces finished and out the door so we can start on the next batch. It is honest work and it keeps a few families going. We don’t think much about being corporate. We are just a local shop in a busy neighborhood.
