Silk Aura

Silk Aura is a little shop located in Panniyur, right near the petrol pump on the main road. We chose this spot because it is easy for people to find when they are driving through the area. As the name suggests, we deal with silk and other fabrics, though we aren't a huge showroom. Our shelves are stacked with different rolls of cloth that we have collected over time. The light inside the shop isn't the best, so we often take the fabric near the door to show customers the real colors in the sunlight. It’s mostly a quiet place except for the sound of vehicles stopping at the pump next door. We spend a lot of our time folding and refolding the materials to keep them neat. Panniyur is a nice place to work and the pace is much slower than in the big cities. We don’t have a website or any fancy marketing tools; we just rely on people seeing our shop as they pass by. Sometimes we get travelers who stop for fuel and end up coming inside to look at the patterns. It is just a few of us running the place, so we do everything from sweeping the floor to handling the cash box. The smell of the petrol sometimes drifts in when the wind blows the right way, but you get used to it after a few days. We enjoy the work and the chance to see the different textures of the silk every day without having to rush too much.
