Shree Ganesh Bearings

Thambu Chetty Street is a really loud and busy part of Parrys in Chennai. We are at number 152, right across from the UCO Bank. Shree Ganesh Bearings is a small shop, but it’s packed with thousands of boxes. Every shelf is filled with bearings of different sizes, and even we have to use a ladder to find the ones at the very top. The street outside is always full of people, rickshaws, and delivery vans, so there is never a quiet moment. Inside, it stays a bit cooler because of the stone floors, but it’s still Chennai, so we keep the fans going at full speed. We spend most of our time looking through catalogs and checking sizes with calipers. It’s greasy work, and your clothes usually end up with a few dark spots by the end of the day. We don't have a big sign with neon lights, just an old board that’s been there for years. The counter is made of heavy wood and it’s been worn smooth by all the customers leaning on it. Sometimes, when the bank across the street is busy, the whole area gets even more crowded. We know the other shop owners on the street well. We often share a coffee or help each other out with change. It’s a hard-working neighborhood, and we’ve been a part of it for a long time.
