Sayee Silks

Sayee Silks is located at House Number 21 on Brindhavan Street in Chetti Teruvuchinna, Kanchipuram. We have been operating out of this house for quite a long time. Kanchipuram is known for its textiles, and we are right in the middle of it. Our space is basically a traditional setup where we handle the silk. It is not a modern shopping mall style place. It feels more like a home that has been turned into a business. There are stacks of fabric around and the smell of silk is everywhere. Brindhavan Street is a narrow lane, like many others in this part of town. It can get quite crowded with pedestrians and two-wheelers. We spend our days checking the weaves and making sure everything is handled carefully. Silk is delicate, so we have to be mindful of how it is stored. Most of our neighbors are also involved in some kind of trade. We do not have fancy displays. People usually come in because they know we have been here for years. It is a family-run kind of atmosphere. Sometimes we sit on the floor to work because that is how it has always been done. It is a steady pace of life here. We just keep doing what we know how to do, day after day, in this old part of Kanchipuram.
