Satnam Singh

Satnam Singh operates out of the Chandrika Complex at New No 7/3, which used to be Old No 4/3. It is situated right on Mandapam Cross Road in the Kilpauk area. The complex itself is quite old and has a lot of different small businesses inside. To get to us, you have to walk up a narrow set of stairs that can be a bit dark if the hallway light is burnt out again. The office has a heavy wooden door and a small nameplate. Inside, the space is filled with the sound of a printer that seems to always be running. We have stacks of documents on almost every flat surface. It can be a bit confusing with the old and new numbering system, but most locals know the building. The traffic on Mandapam Cross Road is usually heavy, so the sound of honking is always there in the background. We have a small electric kettle for making tea, and there is usually a packet of biscuits open on the side table. We spend the day handling various bits of business and talking to people who come by with their paperwork. It is a busy neighborhood with a lot going on, and we are just one part of it. Most of our time is spent on the phone or typing away at the desk. The air conditioner is a bit old and rattles sometimes, but it keeps the room cool.
