Saravana Garden Centre

You can find Saravana Garden Centre at No 76 A on the Velacheri Main Road in Guindy. It is a busy stretch of road, so there is always a lot of noise from the buses and cars passing by. We have a lot of plants packed into the space, from small succulents to some larger palms that take up a lot of room. The ground is usually a bit damp from the morning watering, so you have to watch your step. We spend most of the day moving pots around and making sure everything gets enough sun or shade depending on what it needs. There is a small shed where we keep the bags of soil and the plastic pots. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially under the green netting we put up. People come in looking for something for their balcony or a gift for a friend. We don't have a computer system, so we write everything down in a big ledger book. Sometimes the stray cats from the neighborhood come in and sleep under the benches. It is a lot of physical work, lifting heavy bags and bending over the plants, but it keeps us moving. We stay open until the sun goes down and the traffic on Velacheri Main Road starts to thin out a little bit. It is just a regular local nursery doing what we can with the space we have.
