Sanuth Kumar Brushes

Down at No. 78 Nattu Subrayan Mudali Street in Mylapore, you’ll find us. This street is always alive with something going on, whether it’s people walking to the temple or the sound of vendors nearby. We’ve been operating Sanuth Kumar Brushes from this spot for years. The shop is filled with all kinds of brushes, and you can smell the wood and the bristles as soon as you step inside. There’s dust in the corners, no matter how much we sweep, but that’s just part of the trade. I usually sit near the front where the light is better so I can see what I’m doing. Customers come in looking for something specific, maybe for their homes or for their own small businesses, and we show them what we have on the shelves. It’s a bit cramped in here because we try to keep a lot of stock ready. The walls are lined with boxes, and everything is labeled by hand. Sometimes we get caught up talking to someone who’s lived in Mylapore as long as we have, and work slows down for a bit. The ceiling fan hums constantly, trying to move the thick air around. It’s a simple life on Nattu Subrayan Mudali Street, selling something basic that people actually need. We don’t change much around here, and I think that’s why people know they can find us whenever they need a new brush.
