General Patters Road is a crazy place to work, honestly. If you have ever been to Mount Road or GP Road as we call it, you know the traffic and the noise are constant. Our shop, Sangam Auto Spares, is at No: 32/33. It’s a bit of an old building, but it holds everything we need. The shelves are packed tight with boxes of every size, mostly parts for cars and bikes that people are trying to fix up. You can smell the rubber and the metal as soon as you walk in. Most of the day is spent looking through catalogs or climbing up ladders to find a specific spare part someone asked for. It gets really dusty on those top shelves. We get a lot of mechanics coming in with grease on their hands, looking for a gasket or a light bulb. We don't do anything fancy here, just sell the parts. It’s a lot of talking to people and checking stock. Sometimes the heat in Chennai makes the shop feel like an oven, so we keep the fans going at full speed. People know us because we’ve been in this spot for years. It’s just a regular auto shop in a very busy part of the city. We open early and close when the street starts to quiet down, which isn't very early on GP Road. It's a hectic life but it keeps us busy every day.
