Our place is at No. 1-A in Puliambedu. It’s in the Numbal area, just off the Poonamallee High Road. If you miss the turn, you end up going way out of your way, so we always tell people to look for the landmarks. The forge is always hot, no matter what the weather is like outside in Chennai. You get used to the heat after a few months, but it’s still tough in May. We’ve got the machinery running most of the day, so there’s a constant thumping sound that vibrates through the floor. It’s a loud environment. We don't really have a quiet office; even the desk area gets some of the noise from the shop floor. We spend a lot of time checking the pieces as they come out. It’s a lot of standing and moving around. We drink plenty of tea to keep going. The road outside is usually packed with trucks and buses, especially during the rush hours. We try to time our deliveries so we don't get stuck in that mess. At Saiforge (P) Ltd., we’re a small crew and we’ve worked together for a long time. We don't bother with fancy uniforms or anything like that. We just wear what’s comfortable and get to work. It’s a gritty job, and we go home pretty tired, but the work is steady and that’s what matters to us.
