Universal Bags

Universal Bags is located at No. 32/17 on Rob 6th Street. We are in the Halls Garden area of Royapettah in Chennai- 14. If you know this part of the city, you know it has its own unique feel. We spend our hours surrounded by different fabrics and the sound of machines running. The street outside can get a bit cramped, especially when deliveries are arriving. Our workspace is usually covered in thread and scraps of material, which is just part of the job. Chennai heat can be quite something, so we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze we can from the street. We aren't a big factory; it is just a local operation where we make bags for different needs. Most of the people working here have been doing this for years. We don't have a glossy catalog or a big sales team. People usually find us through word of mouth or by just walking past the building. We start early to avoid the worst of the afternoon sun. The work is repetitive but there is something satisfying about seeing a finished bag at the end of the day. We have been in Royapettah for a while and we have become part of the daily life on Rob 6th Street. It is a simple business, but it keeps us busy and connected to the neighborhood every single day of the week.
