Reliance Electronics

Our place, Reliance Electronics, is actually inside the Mahaniyam Apartment building on Arunachalapuram Street in Aminjikarai. It’s a bit of an unusual spot for a business since it’s an apartment, but it works for us. We use the A-1 unit to handle all our electronics work. The street outside is a typical Chennai neighborhood street, always some noise from the neighbors or someone passing by. Inside, the rooms are pretty much taken over by stacks of electronic components, soldering stations, and various gadgets that need fixing. It’s definitely more of a workshop than a home now. We have a couple of technicians who are usually hunched over their desks with magnifying glasses, working on tiny parts. It gets a bit hot in the afternoons, so the fans are always on full blast. We don't have a storefront with big glass windows; people usually just find us through word of mouth or by looking for the apartment number. It’s a small operation, just a few of us trying to keep up with the repairs and orders that come in. We know the people living in the other apartments, so we try to keep the noise down, although the smell of solder is hard to hide. It’s a humble setup, but it’s where we’ve been doing our thing for years. It’s just how we run our local business here in Aminjikarai, keeping things simple and focusing on the electronics.
