Our place is over at No.7, Ramakrishna Avenue here in Chennai. Regency International Clothing Pvt. Ltd isn’t a high-fashion boutique or anything like that. It’s more like a busy workshop where there’s always the constant hum and click of sewing machines. We have big rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and colorful threads everywhere you look. It gets a bit dusty with all the cotton and fabric scraps around the floor. We’ve been in this part of Tamil Nadu 600 053 for quite a while now. Most of the staff live in the surrounding streets and walk to work. We spend our days looking at patterns and making sure the stitches are mostly straight. It’s repetitive work but it keeps us busy from morning till night. Sometimes we have a lot of orders and the whole place feels a bit frantic. Other times, it’s just the quiet sound of the fans and people talking. We don't have a fancy showroom for people to browse. If you visit, you'll see people actually working and cutting cloth. We make clothes for all sorts of practical needs. It’s a straightforward business. We deal with suppliers for buttons and zippers and try to get the right colors in. Sometimes the dyes aren't exactly what we expected, so we have to figure it out. That's just part of working with textiles every day. We aren't trying to be famous, we just want to make decent clothes that people can actually wear.
