Our office is located over at No 7a on the Vellamall School Road. We are right there in Sridevi Karumariamman Nagar, which is part of the Mel Ayanambakka area. It’s a bit of a mouthful to say the whole address, but it helps people find us among all the new buildings popping up. The road can get a bit noisy when the school nearby lets out, with all the kids and buses everywhere. Inside, things are usually a bit quieter. We have a few desks pushed together and a lot of filing cabinets because the export-import business involves so much paperwork. There’s always someone on the phone talking to the port or checking on a shipment. We don’t have fancy glass partitions or anything corporate like that. It’s just a plain room with some good fans and a water cooler in the corner. Sometimes the internet acts up and we all have to wait around, which gives us time to catch up on local news. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we first moved in, but we’ve stuck to this spot. It’s a practical location for us. We spend most of our time staring at computer screens or talking to drivers. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do day in and day out. It keeps the lights on and the families fed, and that is enough for us after all these years. Most days it’s just about finishing the list.
