Our shop is located on General Patters Road, right in the middle of all the noise and cars. If you know Chennai, you know how GP Road gets in the afternoon. It’s crowded and hot, but we’ve been at No 118/28 for years. We sell all sorts of things for cars, mostly small stuff that people like to add on. The shelves are packed with boxes and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when three or four people walk in at once. I usually sit near the door to catch a bit of the breeze, though there isn't much. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know where the bulbs and mats are kept. Customers come in looking for specific things they saw online, and we have to tell them what actually fits their car. It’s practical work. We spend a lot of time unpacking crates that arrive in the morning. The tea stall next door is where we get our energy from. It’s not a glamorous job, just selling accessories and talking to drivers all day. Some days are slow and we just sit and watch the traffic go by toward Mount Road. Other days, we can't even take a break. We just keep going until the shutters go down at night. It's an honest living and we like being part of this market.
