Raj Opticals And Eye Clinic is located over on T.H. Road in New Washermenpet. We are in that older building, the address says New 299 but some people still look for Old 89. It can be a bit confusing for new visitors. We have been in Tondiarpet for many years now. Most of what we do is testing eyes and fitting glasses for the local residents. We have a lot of frames on the shelves, some are newer styles and some are just the basic ones people like. The shop isn't very big, so we have to organize the glass cases carefully so people don't bump into them. It’s usually me and one other person here during the day. We get a lot of dust from the road because T.H. Road is always busy with trucks and bikes. I spend a lot of time cleaning the display windows. Sometimes the eye testing machine acts up, but we know how to handle it. People come in when they can't read the newspaper anymore. It’s nice to see them walk out with a pair of glasses that actually work. We don't have a fancy waiting lounge, just a few stools. The tea man comes by at four, which is the best part of the afternoon. We stay here until around eight in the evening. The street lights outside don't always work, so it gets a bit dark right in front of our door at night, but the shop light helps.
