If you come down to Parrys, you’ll find us right at 1, Kumarappa Maistry Street. R. N. Rajan & Co. is one of those places that feels like it’s been part of the street forever. The building is old, with high ceilings and thick walls that keep it somewhat cool, though the ceiling fans are always spinning at full speed. It’s a busy area, full of people moving goods and lorries trying to squeeze through the narrow lanes. Our office is right there on the corner, and the front door stays open most of the day to let a bit of air in. We have these old metal cupboards filled with years of records. It’s not a quiet place; you can hear the shouting of the street vendors and the clatter of carts all day long. We sit at our desks, which are mostly covered in ledger books and loose papers. We don't use much fancy technology, just the basics to get the job done. The floor is made of that old stone that stays dark no matter how much you scrub it. We’ve got a small area in the back where we keep the kettle for tea. It’s just a handful of us working here, and we’ve known each other for a long time. We handle the business as it comes, one day at a time, without making much of a fuss. That’s just the way we do things at R. N. Rajan & Co.
