We’ve been at No 128 on St Marys Road for a good while now. It’s right next to H M Hospital in Alwarpet, which makes it easy for people to find us even if they aren't from this part of Chennai. Perfect Home Products is basically just a small team of us handling things for people's houses. We aren't a massive showroom with bright lights and fancy music. It’s more of a functional space where we keep our stock and handle the paperwork. Most days involve a lot of checking lists and talking to suppliers. The traffic on St Marys Road can be quite something, especially in the evenings, so we usually try to get our deliveries out early in the morning. People walk in all the time, sometimes just because they were at the hospital and saw our sign. We sell a variety of things, mostly the practical stuff you need for a kitchen or a bathroom. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone writing clever slogans. It’s just us. My brother handles the accounts and I look after the customers. We have a small desk where we drink our tea and go through the orders. It gets a bit dusty with all the boxes moving around, but that is just how it is. We try to keep things simple and just make sure people get what they asked for without any fuss. It’s a steady job and we like being in Alwarpet.
