P R Soni & Co is where we spend our days, right on Govindappa Naicken Street in Parrys. If you know the New Cloth Market area, you’ve probably walked right past our building without thinking much of it. We are up on the second floor at No 102. It is one of those typical Chennai buildings where the stairs are a bit narrow and you can always hear the noise from the street coming up through the windows. The traffic around here is something else, especially in the mornings when everyone is trying to get their goods moved. Being near the market means it never really gets quiet, but that is just how things are in this part of town. We’ve been at this address for a while now. Some people find the second floor a bit of a climb if the lift is being moody, but we are used to it by now. It is a busy spot, 600001 zip code, right in the thick of everything. You see the same faces every day, the tea sellers and the delivery guys. It is not a fancy place, just a regular office setup where we get our work done. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty with all the construction and vehicles outside, but we keep the fans going. It’s a practical location for us, even if parking is a nightmare for anyone visiting. We just show up, do what needs doing, and go home.
