Metro Gifts

Metro Gifts is tucked away in Sowcarpet. If you know the area, you know how crowded Narayana Mudali Street can get. We are at number 60, which is also New Number 98. You have to come up to the second floor to find us. It’s a bit of a climb, especially if you’re carrying heavy bags. Up here, it’s a bit more peaceful than the street below. We have shelves full of all sorts of gift items. Sometimes it looks like a bit of a maze in here with all the boxes. We spend our time unpacking new stock and wrapping things up for customers. It’s a lot of bubble wrap and tape. The sound of tape dispensers is pretty much the soundtrack of our day. We’ve got a small window that looks out over the street, and it’s fun to watch the chaos downstairs while we work. The team is just a few of us. We’ve worked together for a long time, so we don't need to say much to know what needs to be done. We don't have a big showroom. It’s more like a warehouse where people can come and pick what they want from the stacks. We aren't trying to be the most modern shop in the world. We just want to have what people need when they need it. It’s a busy life, but it’s ours. We usually lock up around seven and head into the crowd to get home.
