J. M. Garments

If you go to Mugapair West and look for number 6/854, you’ll find where we run J. M. Garments. It’s a local spot and we’ve been here long enough that the postman doesn’t even need to look at the sign anymore. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about how we stack the garments. We have racks lined up against the walls and boxes tucked under the tables to make use of every inch we have. It’s usually just a couple of us working here, cutting fabric or folding finished pieces. The street outside can get quite noisy with bikes and vendors, but we’re used to it by now. We don't go in for fancy decorations or big advertisements; we just put the clothes out and let people see them for what they are. Every morning starts with a cup of tea and a quick sweep of the floor before the first customers arrive. We handle everything ourselves, from picking out the materials to bagging up the sales. It can get pretty tiring by the end of the week, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a pile of fabric turn into something someone can actually wear. We’re just a small part of the neighborhood here in Mugapair, doing our bit and keeping the shop going through the seasons. It isn't anything fancy, but it is our livelihood and we take it seriously every single day we are open.
