M/S Madras Hardware Stores

Our shop is on Angappa Naicken Street, right in the middle of the Parrys area. It’s Old No. 149, so we’ve been around this corner for quite a few years now. If you know Parrys, you know how crowded and loud it gets with all the carts and people moving around at all hours. Madras Hardware Stores is basically a place packed with tools, bits of metal, and all sorts of things people need for repairs or building. The shelves are pretty full, and it’s not always the easiest to find things if you don’t know where to look. We usually know where everything is, though, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. It’s a bit dusty, and the floors have seen better days, but that’s a hardware store for you. We spend our time talking to contractors or just folks from the neighborhood needing a few screws or a new hammer. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just open the shutters in the morning and wait for people to walk in. Sometimes we sit on the wooden stools and have some tea while waiting for the next person to show up. It’s a simple way of doing business that hasn't changed much over the decades. The street outside is always a bit of a mess with traffic, but inside we just focus on what the customer is asking for. It’s steady work and we like being part of this old town.
