Our office for MK High Efficient Energy Appliance is on the first floor of a building along Anna Salai in Nandanam. If you know that part of Chennai, you know how the traffic can be. We’re right there at 752/433A, dealing with energy appliances every day. It’s not a massive operation, just a few rooms where we handle the technical side of things and talk to people who come by. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit narrow, and the noise from the main road never really stops. We’ve got stacks of manuals and parts sitting around the desks. It feels more like a workshop than a proper office most of the time. We drink a lot of coffee to keep going through the afternoon slump. Most of us have been working with energy-saving gear for a while, so we’ve seen how the technology changes. We don’t have a big sign outside, just enough for people to find the right door. It gets quite warm in the summer, even with the fans going full blast. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the appliances we handle are doing what they should. It’s a practical way to earn a living. We’re just regular people trying to do a decent job in a busy part of town. No one wears a suit here; it’s just casual clothes and hard work, day in and day out.
