In Chennai, we are based over in Hasthinapuram, specifically at No 258 on 4th Mainroad in Venkatraman Nagar. It’s a bit of a residential pocket, so it’s not as noisy as the main industrial estates. The building we occupy is pretty standard for this area. We’ve been here at Metecno for several years, and the neighbors all know us by now. The street can get a little flooded during the heavy rains in November, but otherwise, it is a decent place to work. Inside, we have a few desks and some filing cabinets that are starting to show their age. We don’t have a big corporate lobby with a receptionist. Usually, you just walk in and talk to whoever is nearest to the door. We spend our hours tracking shipments and making sure the paperwork for the Chennai port is in order. The heat can be quite something in May, so we have a few old AC units that make a lot of noise but keep the room cool enough to work. We take our breaks in the small porch area out front. It is just a handful of us doing the daily work of an office. No one here is trying to impress anyone with big words or fancy presentations. We just get the job done and head home to our families in the evening. It’s a very normal, local operation.
