Mars Cold Storage

Mars Cold Storage is located at 5-C, East Ellaiyaman Koil Street in Kottur. It’s a quiet enough street, but our place is hard to miss because of the big insulated doors and the cooling units humming outside. Working here means you are always going from the hot sun into a freezing room. We all keep heavy sweaters hanging by the door. It’s a lot of checking gauges and making sure the temperature doesn't move even a little bit. We have trucks coming in at odd hours, sometimes very early when the sun is just coming up. We have to move fast so the stuff doesn't sit out in the heat for too long. The office is just a small room with a desk and a phone. We don't have a lot of visitors, mostly just drivers and regular customers. We keep a logbook for everything that goes in and out. It’s a simple business, but it requires a lot of attention because if the power goes out, we have a big problem. We have a backup generator that we test every week. It’s just a few of us making sure everything stays frozen. We don't do much marketing, just keep the facility running and talk to our regulars. It’s a cold job, but we are used to it by now.
