Working at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. here in the Dhun Building feels like being part of the history of Anna Salai. The address is a bit funny because it’s Old No.827 but also New No.86. We are up on the second floor. The building has been around for a long time and you can tell by the way the hallways look. It is not like those brand new glass towers you see in other parts of the city. We have high ceilings and windows that sometimes rattle when a big bus goes by on the street below. Anna Salai is always packed with people and cars, so it is never quiet. Inside, we just have our desks and the usual office stuff. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at files. It’s not very exciting, but it is steady work. Sometimes the elevator is slow, so we just take the stairs to get to the second floor. It’s good exercise anyway. We don't have a big fancy lobby or anything. Just a door with the name on it. Most of us have been working here for years and we know exactly where everything is kept. It’s just a place of business in an old part of town. We come in, do the paperwork, and try to stay on top of the list of things to do before the sun goes down.
