Our office is on Lake View Road in West Mambalam. It is an old part of Chennai and things haven't changed much around here in many years. The address is New No. 30, and it is a pretty standard building for this neighborhood. We have a lot of stuff packed into the rooms, mostly boxes and rolls of material. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, and the ceiling fans never seem to spin fast enough to keep us cool. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking the latest shipments that come in. The street outside is narrow, so when a truck comes to pick something up, everything else just stops for a while. You can hear the temple bells from down the road in the evenings. It is a nice sound to end the day with. We do not have a big corporate lobby or a receptionist sitting in a suit. Usually, you just walk in and find whoever is available at their desk. We have a small kettle for making tea and a stack of newspapers that nobody ever finishes reading. The floor is tile and it is easy to clean, which is good because we track in a lot of street dust. It is a decent place to spend the day. We know the neighbors and the guy who runs the corner shop. It feels like a community here, even if we are all busy.
