Leather Cottage Industries

Leather Cottage Industries is tucked away on 2nd Cross Street, just off Sterling Road. Nungambakkam is a busy area, but our little corner is a bit different. We are at No. 2. It’s a small operation, really. There is always the smell of leather in the air here, which you get used to after five minutes. We work with our hands mostly. The space is filled with scraps and rolls of material. It can get a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a few of us making things. People find us by word of mouth or by just walking past the street. The building has seen better days, but the walls are solid. We’ve been in this Nungambakkam spot for quite some time now. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk while we work. Other days, we are rushing to get things out the door. Sterling Road can be a nightmare for parking, so we usually just walk or take the bus. It’s a simple life. We make what we can and try to keep the quality decent. No corporate fluff, just a workshop where stuff gets made. That's the way we like it. The worktables are scarred from years of cutting and stitching, but they still do the job. We don't need fancy tools to make something that lasts. Every piece we finish is just another day's work for us.
