If you look for us in Parrys, we are up on the third floor of No 10/11 on Umperson Street. It is quite a busy neighborhood being so close to Saravana Bhavan, so there is always a lot of noise and people moving about. We handle shipping stuff from this small office. The stairs are a bit narrow, but we manage. Most of the time, the desks are covered in papers and shipping logs. We have been in this part of Broadway for a long time. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows the tea seller around the corner. We spend our hours talking on the phone and checking where containers are. Shipping is mostly just waiting for things to move and then rushing when they finally arrive. The fans in the office keep spinning, and we drink a lot of coffee while we sort through documents. Sometimes the internet is slow or a shipment gets delayed at the port, and we have to explain that to whoever calls. We aren’t a huge corporate tower, just a few rooms where we get the work done. Parrys is a crowded area, but it feels like the right place for a shipping company. We just do our work and head home when the sun goes down, usually tired but ready to do it again tomorrow morning when the noise starts up again.
