If you go down Brindavan Street in West Mambalam, you’ll see us at number 66, right opposite the State Bank of India. We call it Kuttys Wood Crafts because that’s exactly what we do. It’s a small place, and most of the time you can hear the sound of someone sanding or hammering something in the back. We don't have a giant showroom. Instead, we have a few finished pieces out front and a lot of wood waiting to be worked on. West Mambalam is a tight-knit neighborhood, and we get a lot of regulars who live just a few streets away. They come to us when they need a stool fixed or a custom shelf made for a corner of their kitchen. We don't use computers much; we usually just sketch out ideas on a piece of paper with a pencil. It’s a bit dusty in here because of all the wood shavings, but that’s part of the charm of a real workshop. We don't have a delivery truck, so usually, people just carry their smaller items home or bring a rickshaw for the bigger stuff. We keep things simple and focus on making sure the joints are tight and the wood is smooth. It’s not about being the biggest shop, just being the one that the neighbors trust when they need something made out of wood. We’ve been here a long time and plan to stay for many more years.
