Kurian George Architect

My office is over here at No 1, Dr Guruswamy Road, right near where it meets Poonamalle High Road in Chetpet. It’s a busy corner of the city, that’s for sure. I started Kurian George Architect because I wanted to do things my own way without all the noise of a big corporate office. It is basically just me and a couple of helpers working on projects that come our way. The desk is usually covered in rolls of paper and half-empty tea cups. I’ve lived and worked around Chetpet for a long time, so I know how the buildings here are put together. People stop in because they saw the sign or heard about me from a neighbor. We don't do anything too flashy. It’s mostly about figuring out how to fit a kitchen and two bedrooms into a space that feels too small. I spend a lot of time out at sites, getting dust on my shoes and talking to the masons. It’s not always pretty, and sometimes we have to redraw things three times because the client changed their mind about a wall. That is just how it goes in this business. I keep the door open when the weather is nice, even though the road noise is constant. It feels more connected to the street that way. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to get these houses built right. Most evenings I’m just finishing up the last few lines before heading home.
