Suriya Fibre Products

Suriya Fibre Products is based at No. 16 on Koothalaman Kovil Street. We are in the Thulasingapuram area, near Sant Thams Mount. It’s a place where we work with raw materials and finished fibre goods every single day. The workshop has that specific smell of resin and fibre that you never quite get out of your clothes. It’s a hands-on kind of place. We have some machines, but a lot of what we do involves manual work. The street outside can be a bit narrow, so getting deliveries in and out takes some skill from the drivers. We’ve been here for a good while, and the locals know us as the place that’s always got dust on the windows. We aren't worried about looking perfect; we are worried about making things that last. You’ll see us in our aprons, probably covered in some sort of material, moving things from the mold to the drying area. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we find a rhythm in it. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon, making it pretty hot inside. We just open the doors and keep going. It’s a simple life, making products that people actually use. We don't do much marketing; people usually find us because they saw our work somewhere else. We keep a stack of old newspapers and rags around to help with the cleanup at the end of each work day.
