Triplicane is a crowded place, and we are right in the middle of it at 67 Big Street. It’s Kirloskar Construction& Enginners Ltd. Being in Chennai-5 means we’re used to the noise and the narrow lanes. Sometimes getting a truck down Big Street is a real headache. You have to time it just right. The office is old, like most of the buildings around here. It has high ceilings and stays relatively cool even when the humidity is high. We’ve been here for a long time. People walk past the door all day long. We know the guys at the local shops. It’s a very different vibe than the new parts of the city. We do our engineering work right here at the desk. There’s always a stack of blueprints that need looking at. We don't use much fancy tech, just the basics that work. The team is small. We prefer it that way. Everyone knows what they’re supposed to do. Chennai heat can be brutal on a construction site, so we drink a lot of water and keep moving. It’s not a glamorous job. You get dirty and you get tired. But at the end of the day, seeing something built where there was nothing before feels okay. We just keep at it, day after day, here on Big Street. It is a busy life but we wouldn't have it any other way in this city.
