You can find us at No. 177 on Broadway, right underneath where the DCB Bank is located. It’s a busy spot, and there is always a crowd on the street outside. Being in the basement level means it stays a bit cooler during the summer, but it also means we don’t get much natural light. We’ve got shelves lining almost every wall to hold the stock we move through. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when a big shipment comes in, but we make it work. Most of the time, the air is filled with the sound of tape dispensers and people talking over the noise from the street. We handle international trade stuff, so there are always papers to sign and boxes to move. We don’t have a lot of space for a fancy showroom, so we just keep everything functional. The staff has been here for years, and we all know where every single item is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone walking in for the first time. We grab lunch from the small shops nearby and usually eat while we work. It’s a fast-paced environment because customers expect things to move quickly. Sometimes the bank upstairs has a lot of foot traffic that spills out onto the sidewalk, making it tricky to unload our goods. We just take it as it comes and try to stay organized in our little corner. The night watchman usually locks up the main gate around eight.
